In the News: The Coors Light Branded 'Thirst Trap' Literally Traps Mosquitos in a Beer Can

Summer is pretty much peak thirst trap season. If you're not familiar with the concept of a "thirst trap," it's a phrase for a photo posted on social media meant to look especially appealing to others—think gym or beach pics. You know, appealing to a "thirsty" social media follower.

Coors

Summer is also peak mosquito season, and Coors Light's latest creation is a literal thirst trap that helps mitigate those annoying little bloodsuckers.

The Coors Light Thirst Trap is a funnel that attaches to a beer can (preferably Coors Light) and traps mosquitos inside. Get it? "Thirst trap?" Pretty clever.

There's also Coors Light branding around the base, so the mosquitos know exactly who's behind it all.

In July, Coors Light also did a promotion with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, where he endorsed a branded flashlight rather than the beer, since NFL rules dictate that players can't endorse alcoholic beverages. The flashlight was called the Coors Light, so Mahomes could get away with some solid double-speak without breaking any rules.

The Thirst Trap is already sold out on the Coors Light store, but there are a few listings on eBay, some as high as $125.

The Great Beer Brand Merch Wars continue to rage on, with major brands consistently one-upping each other to try to be the most creative and noteworthy. It's a ton of fun to watch, especially to see just how out-of-the-box brands can get to market themselves with merchandise.
