In the News: KFC x Crocs = Wearable Fried Chicken

Earlier this year KFC teamed up with Crocs, the sensational footwear brand of the early 2000s, to cook up the ultimate “Finger Lickin’ Good” recipe: a pair of Crocs unashamedly covered in all-over chicken print.

The pair is complete with a set of fried chicken charms which smell like fried chicken and can be attached to the Crocs. Dog owners are warned to take caution as these attachments could be mistaken for the real deal.

To replicate the deep-south bucket of fried chicken effect, the base of the shoe features KFC's iconic red and white striped bucket pattern, alongside Colonel Sanders. The back strap of the shoe is attached by a rivet which bears the logo of both brands.

The KFC x Crocs Collaboration shoes were only available while supplies lasted. Launched at 12pm on a Tuesday, by 12:31pm KFC tweeted that the shoes had already sold out. Many fans, some of whom had been waiting prior to the launch in a virtual line, expressed disappointment that they were unable to buy a pair. To the tune of $59.99 a pair, splurging on this limited edition was certainly an indulgence.

Some Twitter users blamed "bots and scalpers" for the shoe's rapid sellout. Sneaker resellers are well-known for using bots to snatch up shoes when they're released, making it harder for ordinary citizens or brand fanatics to stake a claim on novelties like the KFC Crocs. However, Crocs suggests signing up for their emails to stay updated on potential future brand collaborations.
